Amethyst Thread is a small, family-run creative business built by two quilters who believe the best tools and kits should make the fun part easier—not remove the skill, creativity, or satisfaction from making something yourself.
We’re Gena and her mom, Carla, and between the two of us there have always been quilts in progress, fabric being sorted, projects being planned, and probably more craft supplies than any reasonable person needs. The name Amethyst Thread comes from our shared February birthstone, and our tagline says the rest pretty well:
Made by quilters, for quilters.
Our quilt kits grew out of a simple idea: complicated-looking quilts shouldn’t require hours of tedious cutting before you ever get to sew.
We specialize in precision-precut quilt kits designed to take care of the repetitive preparation while leaving the actual quilting to you. Pieces are cut, organized, labeled, and packaged with the details we would want if we opened the kit ourselves. We sew our own designs, test our processes, and use feedback from real quilters before a kit becomes a finished Amethyst Thread product.
The goal isn’t to make quilting mindless. It’s to remove unnecessary frustration so you can spend more time actually making.

Amethyst Thread didn't begin with a perfectly tidy business plan. It grew out of years of quilting, sewing, embroidery, printing, designing, and an admittedly impressive accumulation of craft equipment.
Some of that accumulation—along with Gena's tendency to look at a tedious process and immediately wonder there has to be a better way to do this—eventually became part of how we design and manufacture our products today.
We make things ourselves because we genuinely like figuring out how things are made.
And sometimes the weird little solution becomes the best part.
Some of our favorite projects have reminded us why handmade things matter in the first place.
We’ve made quilts meant to celebrate people, quilts meant to become heirlooms, and quilts meant simply to bring comfort—including a Hunter’s Star quilt commissioned by a grandmother for her grandson Hunter while he was preparing for a heart transplant.
That’s the part of making things that never gets old.
Fabric eventually becomes more than fabric.
Amethyst Thread is still growing, experimenting, and developing new ways to make ambitious projects more approachable. You’ll find precision-precut quilt kits at the center of what we do, alongside patterns, printed apparel, and whatever carefully vetted bit of creative chaos earns its place here next.
We’re glad you found us.
